After ten years as a designer and staff photographer for a large financial firm in New York City, I moved to St. Louis in the summer of 2010. The initial plan for my newly founded photography business was to focus on what I had been doing for years: corporate photography for magazines, annual reports and such. But as a decade’s worth of 9-5 office habits started to wear off, I found myself spending more and more time in the kitchen. For the first time in my adult life I was able to spend time learning how to cook.
At the urging of some of my friends, I started this blog, Shoot To Cook. The original idea was to share some of my experiences learning how to cook, and to try to make some friends in the food community here in St. Louis. And then something happened:
I got hooked on food photography. When I started this blog, it was more of an experiment into learning how to shoot food and how to cook food. Now food photography is the largest growing segment of my photography business.
I’m not a foodie per se, but I loves me some food, and the more I work in this industry the more I love it. Food photography and food culture is now the primary focus for my photography business. You wanna meet some insane and brilliant personalities, spend some time in the kitchen at your favorite restaurant. Steam, heat, flavors, smells, tattoos … it’s all amazing. And I love being part of this world.
Shoot to Cook is a collection of my every day cooking experiences at home. I do all of the photography, food styling and prop styling, unless otherwise noted. I live and work in my studio in downtown St. Louis. You’ll find recipes here, when I can be bothered to type them up, otherwise I’ll point you to the original recipes that I cribbed from. If you’d like to get in touch with me about recipes, food, one of the many typos on the site, or if you’re interested in talking to me about a photography project, please drop me an email using the form below. Thanks!
