In Transition

In most of my moves from apartment to apartment over the years, I’ve usually had to move out of one space and into the next in the same day. This time around, since we closed on our loft last week, I’m in this transition period between two spaces. Over the last few days I have been furiously moving everything that I can in preparation of the “real moving day” this weekend to ensure that the “real move” is as quick and painless as possible. I’ve accomplished a lot, but I also have a lot of aching muscles. I feel like I’m floating, as though I’m not living in either space. I’m going to miss our old loft, but I can’t wait until we can get this move done and I can get back to doing what I love doing the most: making photographs.

I am in love with my new kitchen, particularly the insane amount of cupboard space that we have. I will actually be able to organize my kitchen in a smart manner. For the first time I’m going to have a prep area as well as a serving area. All of my utensils, prep bowls, knives and ingredients will be easily accesible. Of course at the moment, half of my kitchen stuff is here and half is there, so it’s very difficult to actually, you know, prepare anything because neither space has what I need. I think I’m going to just call it quits on the old place tomorrow and move everything over so at least I can start cooking properly again.

Tonight is our last loft dinner as residents at our current building, and I volunteered to supply roasted asparagus. I took some time from the back breaking work to do some mid-afternoon light testing in the new studio space and I am thrilled with the results. The light is very different from the old space, and I’m looking forward to all of the fun I’m going to have working out how to squeeze the most love from my northern exposure sunlight.

More soon!
